Job Details
We are supporting a leading global defence, security and technology organisation in the appointment of a Group Director – Commercial. This is a key executive-level role with accountability for the performance, leadership and strategic direction of a large commercial function.
This opportunity requires an exceptional commercial leader—someone who brings not only deep commercial expertise but also broad business acumen, strong executive presence, and a proven ability to drive growth and commercial excellence in a complex, multi-national environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, you will sit at the heart of the organisation’s strategic growth agenda. You will:
- Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing commercial organisation of up to 50 professionals.
- Define and deliver the commercial strategy aligned to the business’ long-term integrated strategic plan.
- Drive commercial innovation, shaping differentiated market positions and influencing major capture strategies.
- Develop and strengthen key customer, partner and internal relationships, ensuring alignment with sector leaders across the business.
- Advise executive leadership on commercial and customer considerations, acting as a senior thought leader within the business.
- Oversee the development of high-quality proposals, business cases and commercial frameworks that underpin major strategic decision-making.
- Champion operational excellence across commercial governance, investment cases, financial evaluation and project lifecycles.
About You
- You will be a seasoned commercial executive with a strong track record in the defence, security, aerospace or complex technology sectors. You will bring:
- Experience leading sizeable commercial teams (25+) and shaping organisational capability.
- A breadth of broader business operations and administration experience, not purely commercial contract management.
- A record of influencing and winning high-value (£100m+) programmes with government and industry customers.
- Deep understanding of negotiation, commercial strategy, financial evaluation and value creation.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders across a multi-national business, ideally including UK, US or Australian defence environments.
- Proven experience contributing to strategic business cases at Executive
- Committee or Board level.
- Degree educated; advanced business qualifications (e.g., MBA) desirable.
Why Apply?
- This is a rare opportunity to step into a Group-level commercial leadership role within a world-class organisation undergoing significant strategic growth. The successful candidate will join at a pivotal time and play a defining role in shaping future performance, capability and market position.
- A highly attractive executive package is on offer, including substantial salary, bonus, car allowance and a significant share scheme.
